using the outboard in the well

I will be using a Nissan 6 hp long shaft ourboard and iIwant to run it in the well.  I understand plans exist for some kind of a barrior or skirt that surrounds the shaft and keeps water from rising up into the cockpit.  Does anyone know where I can find such plans?  No doubt each brand of motor must have a plan that fits that motor's dimensions.  Thanks,  Larry  Laika3@att.net

Re: using the outboard in the well

Hi Larry, I heard that Seals Spars and Rigging sell something but I made my own.  My Cal 20 came with the original well plug and I just used it as a template.  I made it exactly the same shape only I left an opening large enough to be able to feed through my motor shaft and prop without having to take if off.  It doesn't completely seal the well but it was enough to completely stop water from splashing in.   You don't want to completely seal it anyways because your motor needs somewhere to spit out water if it is water cooled.

Re: using the outboard in the well

I used two sheets of plywood, one for the top and one for the bottom with cutouts for the motor then it locks in place with two sticks of althread and some lock nuts.  Works great.
