Cal 20 mast support question

I'm restoring a Cal 20 and I've pulled out the deck/mast support beam (has the stainless support poles) and I'm curious if it's supposed to be glued to the inside of the deck. What about the ends? Should they be glued and fiberglassed to the hull as well? Needless to say the previous work done on this boat was horrible and I'm cleaning up messes left and right. Thanks all!
