Cal 20's in The Great Vallejo Race

Cal 20's in the Great Vallejo Race.

Two Cal 20's ,Can O Whoopass #626 and Rambler #1114 took both firsts on Sat and First and second on Sunday in the Great Vallejo Raceon May First & Second.  Both days had periods of near drifting conditions and hard spinnaker reaching/running.  Whoopass was crewed by Richard and Paul  in the phrf div while Rambler hit 10.2k OTB  with Mike Farrell and Dave Morris taking honors in the Shorthanded div. with368 boats sailing this race.

Rambler went on to First Honors In the Golden Gate Yacht Club Friday Nite Summer Series Race 1 with Mike Farrell,  Mike Berline and Kevin Moeller. Rambler finished more than 5 minutes ahead on handicap of second place, a well sailed J105.  Wind was in the 22k true range at the start with 18k later in the 5.5 mile race along the San Francisco Bay Cityfront . Not bad for a 1967 boat with 20 year old North Sails.

Re: Cal 20's in The Great Vallejo Race

I haven't been able to convince my skipper to go down to the championships yet ! He's always stated that we'll get creamed by sailors with local knowlege of wind water and tides.... But that's not quite  the problem,,, We don't want to travel 700 miles or whatever just to be turned away for some measurement or weight issue  ,  Is there someone up here in the SF bay area that can measure and weigh our boat before coming down , Perhaps Steve Seal ?

We only do one Long distance trip a year , This year is a planned trip up to the Columbia gorge for the Double Dammed race... Fourty two miles down wind , up current !  with rock walls and such all around !

This next weekend we'll be doing the Drakes bay race our second ocean race ( the first was pretty boring )  Race 30 mile north up the coast to drakes bay on Sat. then Stay overnigh on the hook , and then race back to the CYC on Sunday , one of the three courses includes leaving the SE Faralon islands to port !  Close to 75 miles of racing !

Perhaps championships next year
